Capitalism or a healthy environment — time to choose

The international capitalist class keeps telling us:
“You must choose between economic prosperity and what is good for the environment, because you can’t have both.”

If we continue with capitalism they are correct.
But, why continue with a system that rewards a tiny few while it destroys the environment and creates poverty and wars which affect the rest of us? They say there is no alternative. What do you say?
